Do you really need to find something in Topic Maps, not just browse them? Perhaps you want to edit Topic Maps, and your tool needs to select particular structures? In either case, you need a query language to manipulate the structure and content of Topic Maps. The ISO project for a standard Topic Map Query Language (TMQL) has begun with examination of existing languages. Among the languages designed for operations on Topic Maps is tolog, whose design was influenced by Datalog, a language for querying deductive databases, derived from Prolog. Extensions to tolog and means for creating the standard language from it and other efforts will be examined.
