Knowledge Sharing and Integration using Topic Maps

Presentation, was published by Reidar Bratsberg at 2009-03-19

Two web sites are integrated in a single Topic Map.

Naturfag.no and Viten.no are two electronic resources for science education aimed at teachers and students respectively. On a yearly basis Viten.no is used by over half of all students in the first year of secondary level education.

This presentation will show how the two web sites are integrated in a single Topic Map with the official teaching curricula from GREP, and how the learning resources are shared with the rest of the world using derived metadata in NORLOM (the Norwegian version of the Learning Object Metadata standard) and the protocol OAI-PMH. We will also discuss some of the challenges involved in integratring with external sources, such as GREP, and handling large quantities of data in a topic map.

highly networked content and access paths in support of the associative
human mind. It is our technology of choice for knowledge oriented
application systems.
